A sudden turn of events occurred in the recent times that no one have imagined or predicted. As immigration debate becoming intense, GOP’s chances to perform well in upcoming elections are turning out to be higher.
In June 2014, President Obama promised to use his executive power to pass immigration bill in the House. However, after evaluating the situation and some of the Democrats warned President, White House issued a draft on September 6, stating that President Obama “believes it would be harmful” to his immigration policy to announce any administrative action on immigration before this November’s elections. The draft also blamed Republican Party for extreme politicization on immigration issue.
According to experts, Republican Party has gained much popularity due to his profound stand on prohibiting amnesty to the illegal immigrants. After the massive surge of illegal immigrant children across southern borders made many Americans much less inclined to accept immigration reform that included amnesty to illegal immigrants.
The comprehensive immigration reform bill was scripted by Gang of Eight members (4 Democrats and 4 Republicans) and was passed in the Senate in June 2013 with 68-32 votes. During the debate on this bill, Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) stated: “We need to send Washington a strong signal of the overwhelming grassroots opposition to this amnesty bill from Americans across the country.” The bill was never brought up for a vote in the Republican-controlled House as Republicans called it as “Awful”.
