• Broader move on legal immigration to be re-considered by President Obama
  • The nation’s immigration system is being re-considered by President Obama on request from various groups.

After immigration efforts having collapsed at the Congress level, President Obama hint that he would adopt go beyond the expected relief from deportation for some immigrants in the US illegally.  President Obama is considering key changes in the nation’s immigration system by tech, industry and powerful interest groups that will affect the Republicans election.

Even though the reform is still on hold, some of the requests that have been put by the business and family groups are the change in the way green cards are counted; advocates speculate this would help in freeing nearly 800,000 additional visas in the first year of the reform implementation.

The reform would help in minimizing the visa tailback for business seeking global talent, abridge the green card line for those being sponsored by relatives, a wait that can drag for nearly 25 years, and reduce the incentive for illegal immigration by creating more legal avenues for those wanting to come, as well as those already here. This would ultimately bring down the illegal immigration community numbers in the US and help in producing more green card citizens as the immigrants are very much needed for the economic growth of the country.

Extension of work permit to the spouses of all temporary H1-B skilled workers and enabling the spouse to return to their native home land at least three years before they can go in for US green card citizenship are some of the other requests that has been put up.
