I-693 Validity Rules: When Should You Submit Your Immigration Medical Exam?

Understanding How Long Your Green Card Medical Exam Is Valid

When applying for a Green Card, completing the I-693 Medical Examination is an essential step. But one important detail many applicants miss is this: your I-693 form doesn’t stay valid forever. If it expires, you might have to redo the entire Medical Exam for Green Card, which means more time, more paperwork, and extra costs.

So, how long is your immigration medical exam valid and when’s the best time to submit it to USCIS? Let’s break it down clearly.

How Long Is Form I-693 Valid?

The answer depends on when your USCIS Civil Surgeon signed the form:

Signed on or after November 1, 2023: Good news! The form no longer expires. As long as it’s filled out correctly by a USCIS Certified Doctor, you can submit it anytime unless USCIS believes there’s a change in your health.

Signed before November 1, 2023: It’s valid for 2 years from the signature date. After that, it expires, and you’ll need a fresh I-693 Medical Exam if your Green Card case hasn’t been finalized.

When Should You Submit It?

You can submit your I-693 along with your Form I-485 or later at your interview just make sure it’s still valid at the time USCIS reviews it. Submitting it too early could lead to expiration before they look at it, meaning you’ll have to redo the whole exam.
