What Is Form I-693 and How Long Is It Valid?
Form I-693 is a medical report filled out by a USCIS-approved doctor after your immigration exam. It includes:
- A full health checkup
- Testing for illnesses like tuberculosis (TB), syphilis etc.
- A review of your vaccination history
- Any missing vaccines given at the clinic
After your exam, the Civil Surgeon fills out Form I-693 and seals it in an envelope.
Make sure to send the sealed form along with your green card application documents.
The sealed medical report proves you’re healthy and meet U.S. immigration requirements.
But here’s something important:
Form I-693 isn’t valid forever. If it expires, you may need to retake the exam - which means more time, money, and paperwork.
How Long Is It Valid?
Signed on or after November 1, 2023? Good news - it doesn’t expire as long as it’s filled out correctly. (USCIS won’t ask for a new one unless your health condition has changed, or they think the form doesn’t show your real health status.)
Signed before that date? It’s valid for 2 years from the doctor’s signature.
After 2 years, you’ll need a new exam and new form if your case isn’t processed yet.
If the form is expired when USCIS looks at it, they won’t accept it. That means delays, extra costs, and repeating the exam.
