It is unfortunate that the provisions in 2 recent bills introduced in the Congress show minimal understanding of the great difficulties that are affecting children and families who are trying to seek asylum in the United States. The \u201cAsylum Reform and Border Protection Act\u201d that has been introduced will do away with whatever protections exist under the current laws \u2013 that offer fair protection to unaccompanied children at least a fair chance, as the situations are under review. As it is, the country\u2019s strict asylum process would be gutted out, to the point that those validly seeking protection from harassment and persecution would not be able to do so, now.<\/p>\n

Many professionals have come out against the provisions with singular vehemence. They feel that the Representatives have brought about a bill that show very little understanding about how difficult it would be, for children, or anyone, to seek refuge in the United States.<\/p>\n

Another bill, the \u201cHelping Unaccompanied Minors and Alleviating National Emergency (HUMANE) Act would also tear away many of the protections being currently offered by the country to unaccompanied minors and children. What it would do is to strip away any protection being currently afforded to children who could potentially be the victims of trafficking or modes of violence. Lawmakers feel that both provisions could display a very wrong impression to the world, about the country\u2019s values, moral standards and ethics.<\/p>\n

Both provisions to the law could prove to the world that the USA is hostile and heartless towards children \u2013 in fact, lawmakers claim that most Americans are positively concerned about children\u2019s issues, enacting these provisions could have a very damaging effect to the country\u2019s image in the world.<\/p>\n
